We have an active R & D programme based on a novel DNA hybridisation technology and have developed a rapid, POC test for detection of MRSA. This test has been taken to proof of concept, with plans to broaden the range to include other antibiotic resistant bacteria.
This is a novel DNA hybridisation technology that has been adapted for use in the SafeTube device that is used in the SmokeScreen and IsoScreen tests. The technology has been shown to detect the gene in MRSA (the so called “superbug”) within 30 minutes, giving a coloured end product. It needs no extraction of the DNA and so is ideal for use in a POC situation. It is planned to adapt the technology to rapidly detect a range of bacteria associated with antibiotic resistance.

Urine SmokeScreen: Provides a quantitative measure of cotinine and the other nicotine metabolites when used with the SmokeScreen Analyzer. This instrument automates the mixing and timing of the test and is sensitive enough to detect down to passive smoking levels. The test can be used simply with a colour chart to provide a semi-quantitative measurement of nicotine intake.
